The local G statistics are used to test for spatial clustering in group-level data (Getis and Ord 1992; Ord and Getis 1995). These statistics make it possible to assess the spatial association of a variable within a particular distance of each observation. The local G statistics may detect local clusters that exist despite negative tests for global spatial autocorrelation.
