Founded in 1994, BioMedware has a strong record of NIH-, NCI-, NIAID- and NIEHS-funded research in biostatistics and spatial epidemiology. To date, we have garnered over $11 million in Small Business Innovation Research and Researcher-Initiated grants to fund research and software development. In recognition of the firm's rapid growth BioMedware won "Fast Track" awards from the Washtenaw County Economic Development Council in 1999 and 2000.
Leadership
Geoffrey M. Jacquez (MS, PhD) is President of BioMedware, Chair and Chief Scientist of TerraSeer, and Adjunct Assoc. Prof. of Environmental Health Sciences, University of Michigan. Prior to founding BioMedware in 1994, Dr. Jacquez was a Research Associate at the Stony Brook Research Foundation at the State University of New York (SUNY). Dr. Jacquez has led several successful software development efforts in the area of spatial and space-time data analysis, simulation, and modeling. He is internationally recognized in the field of GIS and health, and holds four patents with one pending for unique software innovations he conceived and developed. Pierre Goovaerts (PhD) is Chief Scientist at BioMedware. Prior to joining BioMedware in 2002, Dr. Goovaerts studied at the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) and at Stanford University. He spent five years on the Faculty at the University of Michigan, Civil and Environmental Engineering department. Dr. Goovaerts teaches numerous short courses in the U.S. and Internationally, which are attended by academics, consultants and federal employees. He is a frequent consultant for the Environmental Protection Agency and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, where he brings his expertise to projects dealing with the characterization of air, soil and water pollution and its impact on human health. Most recently, Dr. Goovaerts has been appointed a Courtesy Associate Professor at the University of Florida, Soil and Water Science Department.
